Services
I'm available for freelance work, project-based contracts, and longer collaborations. Here's what I can help with:
Custom app development
Desktop apps (Electron, Tauri), mobile apps (Cordova/Ionic), web apps, and webxdc mini apps.
Software project consulting
Architecture decisions, code review, technology evaluation. I can help you figure out the right approach before committing to it.
Testing and quality assurance
Manual and automated testing for your apps.
Porting apps from Electron to Tauri
I've done this end-to-end for a large production app. If you're considering the switch, I can help assess feasibility, plan the migration, and execute it.
Privacy-respecting websites
Fast, accessible sites with no cookies, no trackers, and no third-party analytics by default. If you need analytics, I recommend privacy-friendly options like Plausible.
Have a different project in mind? Feel free to reach out - I'm always open to hearing about new challenges.
How I work - values first
I care about privacy, ethical and sovereign technologies. That's not a label I tack on after the fact; it shapes what I build and how I build it.
In practice this means:
- I prefer open-source, self-hostable, and federated solutions over walled gardens.
- If I build you a website, the default is no cookies, no invasive tracking, no third-party analytics that phone home and require complicated privacy policies which are impossible to read - we only deviate from that with a clear reason and your informed go-ahead.
- I lean toward boring, durable technology over the framework of the month.
- Less complexity is better in the long run.
If those values line up with yours, we'll work well together. I'm available for freelance work and collaborations.
I am drawn to prototypes and greenfield projects: new ideas, new architectures, finding out what's actually possible. And committed to seeing them all the way to a stable, polished product, not stopping at the demo.
Specialized experience
Areas where I've gone deeper than a typical generalist:
Cross-platform desktop apps
with Electron and Tauri - long-running contributor to Delta Chat Desktop, and lead of the DeltaTauri port to Tauri (NLnet-funded). The port involved restructuring the codebase into a modular monorepo, building an intermediate Browser Edition as proof of Electron-independence, and sandboxing embedded webxdc apps via Tauri's window-capability system.
Rust / Node.js native bindings and WebAssembly
I maintained a Rust parser crate that compiles to WASM and is consumed from a JS UI.
JSON-RPC over WebSockets, stdio, and unix sockets
prototyped the API layer that became part of Delta Chat's architecture for talking to its core from any client. Blog post about the journey and why I did it.
Email-based and decentralized messaging
I know how chat protocols layered on top of standard email work in practice, including the messy edges most people never see.
webxdc mini apps
small, offline-first, peer-to-peer apps that run inside a chat. I've worked on the specification, implementations and isolation on all platforms (desktop, iOS, android) and of course also authored a few mini apps of my own.
Also worked with
Smaller but real experience - things I'd happily pick up again:
- React UI and component work (Delta Chat Desktop uses React)
- Internationalization workflows - running translation across many languages.
- Cordova / Ionic Framework - building mobile apps from web technologies
- QML / Ubuntu Touch (Linux mobile)
- Home Assistant addons and self-hosting
- Swift / iOS - native iOS app development
- Privacy-respecting web embeds (e.g. static Instagram embeds without their trackers)
This list isn't exhaustive, and it isn't a ceiling. If a project needs a tool I haven't used yet, I learn it.
